Introduction

Scispot note taking is configurable and flexible. You can create different sections, and workflows to execute your experiments, and track them in real time. Scispot Electronic Notebook is connected with all the other apps (such as Labsheets, template library) so you can easily bring your complete data in one spot. This page highlights some of the features you can leverage as a wet lab scientist while recording your work in Scispot. You can easily edit any of your pages in the ELN by typing "\" and picking the right module for your page.

Scispot Labspaces support collaboration so multiple folks can edit the same page at the same time.

Labspaces - Run your experiments collaboratively

Think of Labspaces as your folders to organize your experiments, protocols, and operational documentation. Usually customers use Labspaces to create a unique structure for different teams or workflows. E.g. Protein Gel Electrophoresis, cell binding, etc. Within each Labspace, you can organize your folders, experiments and protocols with all the required metadata attached to your pages

Template Library - Templatize your day-to-day wet lab experiments (group of protocols), labsheets (experiment metadata and resources), and protocols.

Templatize all of your repeatable protocols/experiments/steps using the template library functionality. You can use this as a starting point for your experiment runs and executable pages. There are two types of templates: experiments and protocols. Think of experiment templates as bundled protocol templates while protocol contains your procedural steps. When you start your experiment runs, you can use any of the existing templates and create a copy by simply doing \protocols within your experiment pages.

Scispot recommends templatizing the most common protocols and standard operating procedures so new starters in your organization don't need to start from scratch.

Embedding elements in your Labspace pages

The most common embeds that customers use within their labspace pages are as follows:

  • Labsheets: Bring your database to your ELN such as inventory, samples, etc by clicking on \Labsheet

  • Sheets: Add sheets with formulas to your ELN. The list of formulas that can be built are added to Supported Formulas in Sheets

  • Google Drive: If there is a sharaeble link that can be accessed using the URL, you can easily embed that in your pages

  • Section: Section are usually embedded if you have a need to drag and drop or move certain part of the content in the page

  • Embedding protocols within Experiment pages: You can simultaneously create and embed protocols within any experiment page by using \protocol. This will create a new protocol, either from scratch or based on a chosen template. Think of this as a new branch so you can easily record deviations in your actual experiment run.

  • Embedding protocol steps within protocol pages: You can easily embed existing protocols within any experiment page by using \protocol steps

  • You can also create your mol bio and chem files inside your notebook by using \ and selecting the relevant editor such as DNA editor, Chem editor

Inventory Automation

Every protocol page in Scispot labspace offers the capability to automate your inventory. Inventory is stored in Scispot Labsheet. Once you complete the protocol, it will prompt you to confirm the consumption of inventory items from your Labsheet.
