The Scispot web application has been designed to work on a large variety of devices, screen sizes, and browsers. We perform the majority of our testing on a select group of device classes and these are what we consider to be best-supported (listed below). However, most other devices besides smartphones should have very few issues accessing Scispot.

Laptops

Most laptops will work well. Generally speaking, higher-resolution screens will look better as this allows more room for elements in the interface to be positioned more precisely. 1920x1080 resolution (Full HD) is the gold-standard, and is the most commonly used resolution among both laptop screens and desktop monitors. We also test Scispot from PC screens as small as 1366x768 pixels, which along with 1536x864, are the two follow-ups for most common screen resolution.

Recommendations:

  • When searching for laptops to use with Scispot, we recommend finding one with a 1920x1080 resolution, and at least a 15" diagonal screen size.

  • If the above specifications are not possible, then resolutions as small as 1366x768 with a 13" screen size can work with the platform.

Tablets

Our testing team uses iPad Pros and iPad Airs with 11" and 13" screen sizes. Our engineers also focus on checking for website responsiveness on these devices. Similar to laptops, the larger the screen, the better.

Recommendations:

  • Apple iPad Pro 13" / 12.9"

  • Apple iPad Air 13" / 12.9"

Desktop PCs

The advice for desktop PCs is identical to what was recommended for laptops, where the monitor is more important than the PC itself. Try to find Full HD (1920x1080) monitors and you shouldn't face any issues.

Recommendations:

  • We recommend finding monitors with a 1920x1080 resolution, and at least a 15" diagonal screen size.

  • If the above specifications are not possible, then resolutions as small as 1366x768 with a 13" screen size can work with the platform.

Operating Systems & Browsers

As Scispot is a web application, it works on most desktop operating systems. At Scispot, we use and test our product on macOS, Windows 10 and 11, and Linux (Ubuntu). We also test on iPadOS for our supported iPad models.

Likewise, Scispot works in a variety of browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Brave. We do most of our work in Chromium-based browsers, and so we recommend using one of them for the smoothest experience.

Recommendations:

  • Use the desktop operating system that you are most familiar with (macOS, Windows, or Linux).

  • We suggest using a Chromium-based browser such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Brave to access Scispot.

  • For tablets, recent iPads running iPadOS are best-supported. All iPad browsers are based on WebKit (they work like Safari), so using either Safari or Google Chrome is fine.

Smartphones

Smartphones are not supported by Scispot at this time. While you may be able to perform some basic operations on a smartphone, the screen sizes are too small to use the full capabilities of the platform. We recommend using a supported device (laptop, tablet, or desktop PC) instead.
